4.63 lakh fingerlings to be released in Palakkad reservoirs
Palakkad to release 4.63 lakh fish fingerlings across six reservoirs to boost stocks and fisherfolk incomes.
The programme will cover six reservoirs in the district: Walayar, Kanjirapuzha, Mangalam, Pothundi, Chulliyar and Meenkara

The Fisheries department and Palakkad district panchayat will release 4.63 lakh fingerlings reservoirs across the district as part of a programme to increase inland fish stocks and support fisherfolk. The programme will cover six reservoirs in the district: Walayar, Kanjirapuzha, Mangalam, Pothundi, Chulliyar and Meenkara.
The project aims to increase fish stocks, provide a steady income for fisherfolk and ensure a supply of quality fish. Fisherfolk from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe fisheries cooperative societies are engaged in fishing in these reservoirs. District panchayat president S.B. Raju inaugurated the release of fingerlings in the Walayar reservoir on Monday. The district panchayat has allocated ₹20 lakh for the project.
Pudussery panchayat president V. Bijoy presided over the function. Fisheries deputy director K.T. Anitha, Malampuzha block panchayat development standing committee chairperson V.C. Udayakumar, fisheries extension officer A. Faisal and fisherfolk attended the function.
