Actor-producer Unni Mukundan joins hands with Panaroma Studios for his 50th film

Unni Mukundan takes on the role of writer-director for the action thriller film, set to release on a pan-Indian canvas

Mumbai-based film production and distribution company Panorama Studios on Monday (September 9) announced a collaboration with Unni Mukundan and his production banner Unni Mukundan Films (UMF).

The actor is set to headline the film and serve as writer-director. The title, additional cast, and production schedule are yet to be announced, with the film expected to be a Malayalam action thriller released on a pan-Indian canvas.

The film marks Unni Mukundan’s 50th project as an actor, since his debut in the 2011 Tamil film Seedan. He made his Malayalam debut with Bombay March 12 the same year. In a statement issued by his team, the actor said, “My 50th film is a very special milestone for me, and being able to step into the role of writer-director makes it even more meaningful. I’ve always wanted to tell stories in my own voice, and this felt like the right project and the right time to take that step.”

Unni is also slated to appear in Whistle, directed by Rajeev Krishna, which was announced in July. A project with the actor playing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, titled Maa Vande, was also announced last year. His last releases were Mindiyum Paranjum (2025), Get-Set Baby (2025), and Marco (2024).

The Hindu review of Marco said, “ Saying that it is an action thriller does not capture the full extent of the ‘action’ in it. It is high on ‘mass-y’ gore. The plot is fairly simple — the blind younger brother of Adattu George, Victor, is murdered because he is a ‘witness’ to murder. And Marco will do anything for his family — kill and die, if he has to. But he mostly does the killing and maiming. Marco is about how the brothers wreak havoc on their brother’s murderers — Tony Issac and his sons. The first half of the film lays the foundation for the action that follows. In the second half, everyone in the movie seems to go berserk.”

Panaroma Studios, owned by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak, previously collaborated with Malayalam creators, distributing films such as Drishyam 3, Unmadham and Anomie: The Equation of Death.
