Owing to ongoing drain works on a residential road parallel to G.M. Palya Main Road, the entire neighbourhood is grappling with traffic congestion within the layout during peak hours.
A crossroad that provides an alternative connecting route between G.M. Palya Main Road and Bairasandra Main Road has been dug up for the installation of drain lines. The stretch also shares the traffic burden of G.M. Palya Main Road, carrying vehicles heading towards Bairasandra Main Road.
Sakshath, a daily commuter, said the stretch was a crucial link as it passes by the rear gate of Bagmane Tech Park. “Hundreds of office-goers use this road to reach Bairasandra Main Road, but the stretch is narrow. Besides, the connecting roads are also narrow, adding to the congestion,” he said.
There are several small apartment complexes and individual houses on both sides of G.M. Palya Main Road and along the connecting stretches. Residents say they are now grappling with persistent honking and disruptions caused by increased vehicular movement.
Suma R., a resident, said the problem was limited to peak hours, with congestion easing after 11 a.m. “Even with the traffic, the main issue is haphazard driving, which accounts for half the congestion. If the traffic police deploy at least two personnel along the stretch until the civic works are completed, the situation will ease to some extent,” she said.
Ms. Suma also said that commercial establishments along the main road were receiving supplies only in the afternoon. Deploying traffic police personnel during peak hours would therefore help ease the problem, she added.
Meanwhile, the daily commuters have also taken to social media to inform road users about the ongoing works, urging many to use other roads until the works are completed.
