A 20-year-old B.Tech student died after allegedly leaping off the sixth floor of an administrative block at a private university near Nagandenahalli in the Bengaluru Rural district on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as S. Varshini, a native of Andhra Pradesh and a third-year B.Tech student. A senior police officer told The Hindu that no note had been recovered, but the police had taken her books and study materials for examination to look for possible leads.

According to the officer, Varshini had messaged her parents, saying, “I love you, Dad. I love you, Mom.”

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Thursday.

The police have registered a case against the person in-charge of the Block where the incident occurred under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with causing death by negligence.
