Prime Video has released the first teaser for ‘Carrie’, offering a first look at Mike Flanagan’s contemporary reimagining of Stephen King’s iconic horror novel ahead of its October premiere

Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser for Carrie, giving us our first glimpse of Mike Flanagan’s television adaptation of Stephen King’s landmark 1974 novel. The eight-episode series, which premieres on October 7, marks the filmmaker’s latest collaboration with King after Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck.
The teaser reintroduces Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, a socially isolated teenager whose life is shaped by relentless bullying at school and the suffocating control of her deeply religious mother, Margaret White, portrayed by Samantha Sloyan. As Carrie’s mysterious telekinetic abilities begin to surface, the teaser hints at the devastating consequences that follow when years of trauma and humiliation reach a breaking point.
Rather than recreating Brian De Palma’s celebrated 1976 film beat for beat, Flanagan appears to be placing the story in a contemporary setting, weaving in themes of social media, misinformation and modern high school culture while preserving the emotional tragedy at the heart of King’s novel.
The series also stars Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Amber Midthunder, Matthew Lillard, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Arthur Conti and Josie Totah. Longtime Flanagan collaborators Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli and Katee Sackhoff also appear in recurring roles, continuing the creative partnerships that have become a hallmark of the filmmaker’s projects.
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Flanagan described Carrie as a fresh interpretation rather than a direct recreation, explaining that revisiting one of King’s most recognisable stories offered an opportunity to explore new ideas while remaining faithful to its emotional core. Stephen King has also expressed support for the creative direction of the adaptation.
The teaser debuted during Prime Video’s Comic-Con presentation, where the streamer also confirmed the series’ October release date. For Flanagan, whose recent work has helped redefine prestige horror television, Carrie represents another ambitious attempt to bring one of King’s most enduring stories to a new generation.
