Teargas and lathi-charges as CJP protesters storm into central Delhi

Protesters marching toward Parliament from Sansad Marg side were stopped by security forces outside the Sansad Marg Police station on Monday (July 20, 2026). Security forces used batons to control the crowd, injuring a few protesters who received first aid on site. Police fired tear gas at protesters, who have been stopped at Raisina Road, barely 200 metres from Parliament. The Parliament march began from Jantar Mantar, where the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been holding a sit-in since June 20, and coincided with the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

CJP on Monday said that it’s spokespersons met Health Minister J. P. Nadda and they submitted a letter, demanding the immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk, Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and one crore compensation for all NEET-UG aspirants who died after the NEET-UG paper leak.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Monday urged the authorities at Safdarjung Hospital to discharge him, citing his stable health condition, so that he could participate in the “Sansad Chalo” march to Parliament led by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and other activists.

CJP spokesperson Sourav Das said that Health Minister J.P. Nadda assured of discussing CJP’s demands at the ‘appropriate level’. Mr. Das has stated, “The demands have been conveyed, including immediate resignation/sacking of Dharmendra Pradhan. The Minister assured us he will discuss this at the appropriate level. However, no commitments have been made so far. The peaceful protesters will not rest until the demand is met!.”

Following a meeting with representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said he has “requested all the protesters to end their sit-in and assist the administration in restoring normalcy.”

In a post on X, Mr. Nadda said that the discussions began 11.50 a.m.

“The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. An initial verbal discussion was held in detail with their delegation, and they submitted a written petition to me around 4 p.m.”

Delhi HC post for hearing on Tuesday the appeal filed by Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, seeking his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to a hospital of his choice.

Court said its immediate concern was to “save his life first” and sought clarity on Mr. Wangchuk’s current medical condition. It directed that all pathological reports from Safdarjung Hospital, AIIMS and the private laboratory be placed on record. It also asked the doctors leading Mr. Wangchuk’s treatment at Safdarjung Hospital and his private physician to remain present at the next hearing.

CJP reiterated their demand of resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan once again on Monday (July 20).​​

CJP spokesperson Sourav Das clarified that Abhijeet Dipke is not under arrest or detention currently.

Ashutosh Ranka, CJP spokesperson, said that Health Minister J.P. Nadda requested some time to align with BJP’s leadership with regards to CJP demands. Mr. Ranka wrote in his X post,” Nadda ji has requested some time to align with their leadership with regards to our following demands: 1) Immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk. 2) Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. 3) ₹1 Crore compensation for all NEET aspirants who died after the NEET-UG paper leak.

CJP said in a post on X, that Gitanjali Angmo, wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, has been assaulted by police during CJP’s march to Parliament. CJP also stated that a child was also got hit by police.
