The makers of the Marathi film, Gondhal, India’s official entry to Oscars 2027, have unveiled the global trailer of the film ahead of its theatrical re-release on November 13. Directed by Santosh Davakhar, the film will be re-released in seven languages in India, the USA, the UK, Europe, Australia, Dubai, and Africa.

The trailer gives a look into the dense psychological thriller that is set against the backdrop of a folk performance in Maharashtra. It follows Suman and Anandrao, a newly married couple whose lives take a disturbing turn as desire, duty and devotion collide as the film promises to blend cultural traditions with a stylised, cerebral experience.

Speaking about the film, Santosh said in a statement, “Gondhal is not a film but generations of culture, people, traditions coming together. Getting the world to know about this tradition is something that makes me immensely happy, global festivals like academy awards help filmmakers to bring forth the ethnicity of our very roots across continents and not only in India.”

Gondhal is the fourth Marathi film to be submitted for the Oscars in the Best International Film category. The earlier titles were Shwaas (2005), Harishchandrachi Factory (2009) and Court (2015).
