A 25-year-old gym trainer was stabbed to death during a fight at a party in an apartment complex at Sahakar Nagar in Bengaluru on October 3 night.

The deceased has been identified as Nandan. The Amruthahalli police have detained four of his friends, including prime accused Vishwanath, for questioning, and have registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by Nandan’s mother.

The accused and deceased were working in the same gym, and were friends.

According to the police and the complainant, a party was organised in an apartment on the 16th floor of a residential complex to mark the first anniversary of a gym by one of the member of the gym .

Nandan had reportedly told his family that he would return home late after the celebrations.

During the party, an argument allegedly broke out between Nandan and Vishwanath. The argument escalated into a physical fight.

According to the complaint, an altercation took place in the bathroom of the apartment. Nandan allegedly sustained a serious injury to the head after being struck with a sharp glass object. He suffered heavy bleeding, but was allegedly not taken to a hospital immediately.

According to the complaint, the injured man continued to bleed for several hours. He was eventually shifted to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The police are questioning the four detained persons to ascertain their individual roles, the exact circumstances in which Nandan sustained the injury, and why there was a delay in taking him to a hospital.

Nandan’s family members said they came to know about the seriousness of the incident only after police contacted them, and asked them to come to the hospital.

“He had no bad habits and was a responsible youngster. He used to keep us informed about everything he did, even when he bought a shirt. He was our only son. We cannot understand why this happened to him,” a family member told mediapersons.

Police are examining CCTV footage and recording statements of those who attended the party to establish how the fight started, who assaulted Nandan, and who was present when he sustained the fatal injury.
