Heavy rains that lashed parts of Bengaluru since October 5 afternoon led to waterlogging in several parts of the city, slowing traffic on stretches, including Laggere, Yeshwantpur, and Hebbal, as well as in parts of south Bengaluru.
Traffic police officials said most instances of waterlogging were cleared overnight, shortly after they were reported, to ensure that the impact of the rain did not spill over into October 6 morning traffic. However, in some areas, water remained stagnant due to the poor condition of roads, and efforts were under way to clear these stretches, officials said.
Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials said roads in Hennur, Doddanekundi, ITPL, and Indiranagar, among other areas, were waterlogged. The Shivananda Circle and Hoodi underpasses were flooded. The officials added that there were only a few complaints of trees and branches falling, including in HAL and around Defence Colony, and these were attended to immediately.
Officials said work on stormwater drains had been carried out over the past few months to prevent flooding. Hence, no major instances of flooding had been reported. Long-term measures to address flooding are also under way, they added.
