INDIA bloc leaders likely to visit Bihar’s Siwan to meet injured protesters who suffered gunshot wounds

The INDIA bloc members are likely to visit Siwan in Bihar, where the State police had used AK-47 guns against protesting students. This proposal, according to sources, came up during the Opposition alliance’s meeting on Thursday (August 6, 2026) morning.

At least three protesters sustained gunshot injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in Patna. The video of the policeman firing the AK-47 was circulated widely on social media since July 26. The Opposition has been persistently demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the “police brutalities” faced by the protesters, including baton charges, tear gas shells and pellet guns. The policeman who used the AK-47 was suspended and a departmental inquiry ordered by the State administration.

According to sources, Congress proposed the idea, which was backed by all bloc members. So far, no date has been fixed for the trip, though senior leaders aware of the discussions said that, in all likelihood, the tour will be planned during the Parliament session to further highlight the “repressive measures” deployed by the government to deal with the protesters.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has met different groups of students in the last few days, including the victim with pellet gun injuries, girls who faced baton-charge at Jantar Mantar and the All India Students’ Association (AISA) activists who sat on hunger strike.
