YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed concern over his sister Y. S. Sharmila’s reported decision to hold her daughter Anjili’s wedding at his Bengaluru residence, citing security and privacy concerns.

In a letter dated October 9, made public by the YSRCP on Saturday, Mr. Jagan said he was happy to learn about Anjili’s wedding and wished her a lifetime of happiness, despite the differences between him and Ms. Sharmila over the past seven years. However, he expressed disappointment that his concerns over the proposed venue had allegedly been ignored.

Mr. Jagan said hosting the wedding at his residence, where he currently lives, would entail the presence of a large number of guests, service providers, catering staff, decorators, event managers, photographers and videographers. Their movement and the circulation of photographs and videos of the property and its surroundings could pose serious security and privacy risks to him and his family, he said.

Clarifying that he was not opposed to the wedding, Mr. Jagan said he wanted the occasion to be memorable for Anjili but could not overlook the potential risks. He said he would have taken the same position even if the wedding involved his own daughters, Harsha or Varsha. He also offered his Lotus Pond residence in Hyderabad as an alternative venue, adding that the offer remained open.

In a statement issued along with the letter by the party’s central office in Tadepalli, Guntur district, the YSRCP alleged that Mr. Jagan’s concerns had been disregarded and claimed that a political conspiracy was being orchestrated to damage his reputation.

The party alleged that certain individuals and forces were attempting to exploit the issue to create controversy, advance a political agenda and undermine his standing. It maintained that Mr. Jagan’s objections stemmed from genuine concerns over the security and privacy of his family, rather than opposition to Anjili’s wedding.

Mr. Jagan appealed to Ms. Sharmila to consider his concerns and choose an alternative venue.
