A 42-year-old lawyer was seriously injured after a gang attacked him with machetes in Kattumannarkovil in Cuddalore district on Friday (October 9, 2026) morning.

According to the police, the victim, Thanga Vikraman of Kakkan Nagar in Kattumannarkovil, was on his morning walk when a gang waylaid him on Chetty Street. The assailants attacked him indiscriminately, causing injuries to his face, arms, and legs before fleeing the spot.

Passersby rushed Thanga Vikraman to the Kattuamannarkovil General Hospital and alerted the police. He was subsequently shifted to the Cuddalore Government Medical College and Hospital in Chidambaram for further treatment.

The police suspect the attack might be linked to a dispute arising from a theft case a few months ago. Three special teams have been formed to trace those involved in the attack.

Further investigations are under way.
