Surprise inspections were conducted in Indiranagar and surrounding areas, with the officials noting that animal waste, hotel waste and construction debris were being dumped indiscriminately in some areas.
The Karnataka Lokayukta has issued notices to senior civic officials over lapses and negligence in the collection and disposal of waste in the Central City Corporation limits.
The notice follows a report submitted by senior police officials from the Karnataka Lokayukta, who were part of a team that inspected waste collection and disposal in parts of the city on Saturday after a media report flagged the gaps. Surprise inspections were conducted in Indiranagar and surrounding areas, with the officials noting that animal waste, hotel waste and construction debris were being dumped indiscriminately in some areas.
The Lokayukta noted that the lapses had continued despite inspections and monitoring of the waste management system, and said the repeated failure of officials to discharge their duties indicated administrative negligence.
It has directed that the GBA Chief Commissioner and the Central Corporation Commissioner be informed of this and that the police wing should conduct random inspections of the area and file a report before October 9, if lapses continue.
