The water level in the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur fell below 65 feet and stood at 64.79 feet, against its full reservoir level (FRL) of 120 feet, at 8 a.m. on Saturday (October 10, 2026).
According to Water Resources Department officials, the storage was 28.38 tmc ft, against the reservoir’s full capacity of 93.47 tmc ft. The inflow was 1,021 cusecs, while 15,000 cusecs was released into the Cauvery for delta irrigation. No water was released through the canal. The reservoir received 0.4 mm of rainfall.
Water was not released for delta irrigation on the customary date of June 12 this year owing to the low storage level and delayed monsoon. It was subsequently released on September 1 for 45 days, until October 15. With the water level declining and inflow remaining low, officials said the release for delta irrigation might not be extended beyond the scheduled date.
