Netflix has released the first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ fantasy novel, introducing a new cinematic take on the origins of the magical world. The film stars David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell as Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, alongside Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep. It is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on February 12, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
The trailer follows childhood friends Digory and Polly as they discover a mysterious way to travel between worlds using magical rings. Their journey takes them to the Wood Between the Worlds, a strange realm connecting different universes, before they witness the creation of Narnia. The preview features fantastical landscapes, a flying horse and the arrival of Aslan, the majestic lion voiced by Streep.
Craig plays Andrew Ketterley, Digory’s eccentric magician uncle, while Mackey appears as Jadis, the character who will become the White Witch. The cast also includes Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Denise Gough, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Susan Wokoma.
One of the trailer’s defining elements is its use of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’, which accompanies the film’s imagery of Narnia coming into existence. Gerwig has described the concept of a cosmic lion singing a world into life as one of the ideas that captivated her when she first read Lewis’ book as a child. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who previously collaborated with Gerwig on Barbie.
Gerwig, best known for directing Lady Bird, Little Women and Barbie, has written and directed the film, marking the first screen adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew. Published in 1955, the novel explores the creation of Narnia and the events that precede The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The new film is the first instalment in Netflix’s planned cinematic reimagining of the Chronicles of Narnia universe.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will receive IMAX previews beginning February 10, 2027, followed by its global theatrical release on February 12. The film will then premiere on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
