The Bengaluru South City Corporation has fined Al-Shifa Polyclinic, on Mangammanapalya Main Road, ₹15,000 for allegedly dumping medical and mixed waste in a public place.
On Tuesday, K.N. Ramesh, South Corporation Commissioner, said a team of junior health inspectors from the BTM Layout division found medicine packages, medical waste, and mixed garbage dumped along the roadside near Srinivagilu and Mangammanapalya Main Road during an inspection. Prescription slips and documents found at the spot helped officials identify the waste as belonging to the clinic.
“The clinic was fined for violating the Solid Waste Management Rules and for failing to comply with the norms for bulk waste generators,” the corporation said in a press note.
The corporation said the officials also sensitised the clinic’s doctors and staff about proper waste disposal and instructed them to hand over medical and solid waste to authorised agencies for scientific disposal.
Mr. Ramesh warned that hospitals, clinics, laboratories and other commercial establishments found dumping waste in public places would face regular inspections, heavy fines and legal action.
