Bengaluru’s Church Street could not withstand the weight of a garbage collection truck on Monday (October 12) morning, when a section of the TenderSURE road caved in as the vehicle was moving towards St. Marks Road, leaving it stuck for about four hours. The collapse was reported at around 9 a.m.
The incident raised concerns over the condition of the road, which is part of the city’s TenderSURE network designed to provide durable streets, with the video of the incident making rounds on social media.
Bengaluru City Central Corporation officials said the truck was removed after four hours and that they suspect it may have been excessively loaded, which led to the incident. However, they admitted that the exact reason for the road collapse was not yet known. A senior official only maintained that the damaged section of the TenderSURE road would be repaired.
