Six persons have been arrested for molesting a woman doctor and assaulting her husband and other friends in a movie hall at Kolkata's Acropolis Mall on Sunday (September 21, 2026) night.

According to police, the victim with her friends went to watch a movie at the theatre when the six men intimidated her by making obscene gestures and derogatory comments with sexual connotations. When her husband and other friends protested, the accused assaulted them.

The theatre management called the police. A team from the Kasba police station rushed to the spot and arrested all the six accused.

A case under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 79 (outraging woman's modesty), 126 (wrongful restraint) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been booked against them.

Some of the accused claimed to be students of Jadavpur University. Those arrested were Anand Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Arvind Kumar, Srijan Darbar, Manoj Roy, and Arindam Ghosh.

In another incident, a 36-year-old woman and her husband were attacked by three youth at a residential complex at Ballygunge's Sunny Park last week.

The victim, an employee of a private company, said while she and her husband were returning home from a complex at Sunny Park, the three men came in a speeding car and almost pushed them.

When the couple protested, the three abused them. Later, they got off the car and hit the couple with an iron rod. The complex management intervened and rescued the couple, who sustained minor injuries.

The two then approached the Ballygunge police station and lodged a First Information Report. They also submitted a CCTV footage of the incident.

The police said a search was on for the accused — Kshitij Sikaria, Aman Saraf and Krish Budhia.
