The Election Commission will conduct special campaign in Karnataka on August 29 and 30 and September 19 and 20, to help voters verify their names in the draft electoral rolls and submit claims and objections following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Booth-level officers (BLOs) will be present at polling stations on these days to assist electors with the process.

BLOs to help voters verify names

According to a release, the BLOs will have adequate copies of forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8. They will assist voters in locating their names in the draft electoral rolls and collect claims and objections.

The BLOs have been directed to digitise the forms through the BLO application. They will submit details of the forms received each day by 5.30 p.m., the release said.

The authorities have been asked to undertake extensive Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities to create awareness about the special campaign.

As on August 28, Karnataka has 4,46,35,948 electors in the electoral rolls, including 2,21,59,229 men, 2,24,73,848 women and 2,871 transgender electors.

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer said as many as 43,81,006 notices would be generated in the notice phase, and it would begin on Friday, with detailed figures to be provided subsequently.

4,262 AEROs, Additional AEROs

A total of 4,262 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Additional AEROs have been deployed for the notice phase, according to the communication.

The State has also issued a Gazette notification appointing additional AEROs to assist Electoral Registration Officers in the respective Assembly constituencies.

The appointments have been made under Section 13(C)(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the release added.
