1. Allegations of attempt to topple government: Three men arrested for bid to bribe TVK MLA

Three men have been arrested by the Greater Chennai Police based on a complaint filed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party’s Uthangarai MLA N. Elaiyaraja for attempting to bribe him to vote during no-confidence motion against the Speaker in the next Assembly session.

Meanwhile, speaking to journalists at the Secretariat in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar, today (July 1, 2026), accused DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin of allegedly entrusting former Minister and incumbent Coimbatore South DMK MLA V. Senthilbalaji with the task of “luring” TVK MLAs by offering them up to ₹50 crore with the intention of toppling the government.

2. TVK, post-poll partners move to institutionalise alliance with coordination committee

The first meeting of the post-poll partners of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu, held at a private hotel in Chennai, signalled the formalisation of the arrangement into a political alliance.

TVK president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay held discussions with leaders of the Congress, IUML, VCK and MDMK on constituting a coordination committee to steer the alliance, framing a common minimum programme, and deciding on a name for the alliance.

3. Sahitya Akademi award-winning poet Puviyarasu laid to rest with State honours

Sahitya Akademi award-winning poet Puviyarasu was laid to rest with full State honours at Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore District Revenue Officer (DRO) S. Madhuranthagi, representing the Tamil Nadu Government, placed a floral wreath and paid official last respects to the late poet before the funeral rites.

4. Madras HC refuses to reject suit against continuance of Nadigar Sangam office-bearers

The Madras High Court refused to reject a civil suit filed last year against the continuance of actors Nasser, Vishal Krishna and Karthi as president, general secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the South Indian Artistes Association, popularly known as Nadigar Sangam, even after the expiry of their three-year elected term on March 19, 2025.

5. CM Vijay urges PM Modi to relax, modify certain provisions of VB-G RAM G Act

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention for critical modifications and relaxations to certain provisions of the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025. He also requested the Prime Minister to continue the scheme in the name of Mahatma Gandhi to honour his legacy.
