Bengaluru police have booked three people for allegedly hanging a stray dog from a tree and beating it to death in east Bengaluru’s Gunjur.

The police have detained three individuals and are questioning them in connection with the incident. They are yet to ascertain when the incident occurred. The incident took place off Sarjapur-Varthur Road, near a private educational institution.

The alleged act was reportedly recorded by two of the accused and shared between them. Images of the incident were later circulated on social media, prompting several animal rights activists to alert the Bengaluru City Police.

A senior police officer from the Varthur police station limits told The Hindu that an FIR had been registered in connection with the incident under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The accused have been detained, but formal arrest procedures are yet to be initiated.
