Hindi actor Tiger Shroff came under attack but escaped unhurt on October 18, 2026, when two men opened fire on the actor’s car in the Juhu area of Mumbai. One of the assailants was in touch with the gang of Lawrence Bishnoi, according to news agency PTI.

This is the latest instance of an attack on a Bollywood celebrity. Celebrities, including Rakesh Roshan and Gulshan Kumar, have come under attack over the years.

Past attacks on Bollywood celebrities

Hindi actors and other Bollywood celebrities have been attacked in the past with some of these carried out by criminal gangs. Here are some of the major incidents.

1997 Gulshan Kumar shooting

On August 12, 1997, Gulshan Kumar, founder of T-Series music label, was shot dead around 11 a.m. in north-west Mumbai.

A The Hindu report dated August 13, 1997, noted that Mr Kumar was hit on the face, neck, and chest by 16 bullets fired at short range with automatic pistols. Mr Kumar was shot while he was returning to his car after praying at a Shiva temple. A car driver and two others were injured.

In 2021, the Bombay High Court upheld the life imprisonment of Abdul Rauf Dawood Merchant for the murder.

According to the prosecution, a conspiracy to kill Kumar was hatched at gangster Anees Ibrahim’s office in May 1997 after the music baron refused to pay Rs 10 crore to gangster Abu Salem as protection money.

Kumar received extortion calls on August 5 and 8, 1997, but he refused to pay the extortion money, leading to the assailants attacking Kumar. On January 9, 2001, Abdul Rauf confessed to the murder. In 2002, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2009, he fled India after being granted furlough. In 2016, he was extradited to India and lodged in Arthur Road jail.

2000 Rakesh Roshan shooting

In January 2000, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan was shot and injured in an assassination attempt in the Santacruz area of Mumbai, just a week after the release of his blockbuster film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, which debuted his son and actor Hrithik Roshan, according to news agency PTI.

In 2025, in an ANI report, Rakesh Roshan shared his past fears of being killed by his security guards after the 2000 shooting. He reportedly felt claustrophobic due to the constant security detail and asked for it to be removed.

2024: Firing outside Salman Khan’s house

On April 14, 2024, two people on a motorbike opened fire outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai. The two assailants fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments in the Bandra area, where the actor resides, at around 5 a.m.

Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi allegedly claimed responsibility via a Facebook post. The two shooters were apprehended in Kachchh, Gujarat. The authorities later arrested multiple accomplices and weapon suppliers including Anuj Thapan, Sonu Subhash Chander, and Mohammad Chaudhary.

In October 2024, a special court denied bail to the shooter, affirming that the accused acted on behalf of Anmol Bishnoi with the intent to kill the actor.

2025: Kapil Sharma’s cafe targeted

Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma’s cafe in London’s Surrey was also targeted. Sharma’s eatery, Kap’s Cafe, became the target of three shooting incidents between July and October 2025. The first attack came within a week of its inauguration.

In November 2025, Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon, a India and Canada-based handler for the Goldy Dhillon gang, was arrested from Punjab’s Ludhiana.

A November 2025 The Hindu report quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav as saying, “No injuries were reported in any of the attacks, but the incidents caused significant damage and raised security concerns in Canada.”

“The accused had been providing logistical support, weapons and strategic assistance to shooters involved in the attacks on Kap’s Cafe,” he added.

2026: Firing outside Rohit Shetty’s house

On February 1, 2026, there was firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s home in the Juhu area of Mumbai.

Hours after the firing, a social media post surfaced claiming that Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar was behind the attack, The Hindu had reported, quoting PTI.

At least five rounds were fired at the first floor of the nine-storey building in the Juhu area at around 12:45 a.m. One bullet struck the glass of a gym located in the building, officials said.
