TVK MLA claims Rahul Gandhi will help Tamil Nadu CM Vijay become Prime Minister in 2029

Kanimozhi Santhosh said, “It was Mr. Rahul Gandhi who made our leader [Mr. Vijay] sit in the Chief Minister’s chair. Similarly, in 2029, Mr. Rahul Gandhi would hold our leader’s hand and lead him to the Prime Minister’s chair.”

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA from Kavundampalayam, Kanimozhi Santhosh, on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) claimed that Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi would help TVK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to become the Prime Minister in 2029.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Ms. Santhosh said, “It was Mr. Rahul Gandhi who made our leader [Mr. Vijay] sit in the Chief Minister’s chair. Similarly, in 2029, Mr. Rahul Gandhi would hold our leader’s hand and lead him to the Prime Minister’s chair.”

Reacting to her remarks, Congress floor leader and Colachel MLA Tharahai Cuthbert said, “Mr. Rahul Gandhi is a leader accepted by everyone. The Chief Minister was clear that Mr. Rahul Gandhi would be the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2029 general election.”

“The TVK MLAs are new to politics and are still in a fans’ attitude,” Ms. Cuthbert said. According to her, there was nothing wrong on the part of the TVK members in projecting Mr. Vijay as the Prime Ministerial candidate. “However, the Chief Minister was clear that Mr. Rahul Gandhi would be the Prime Minister,” she added.
