India’s men’s and women’s skeet teams clinched bronze medals in Nagoya, adding two more shooting medals to the country’s tally.

Jay Meena created history by securing India’s first-ever soft tennis medal at the Asian Games, winning bronze after losing to Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka in the men’s singles semifinals on Wednesday (September 23, 2026). The 26-year-old, competing at his third Asian Games, staged a spirited fightback after falling three games behind but could not sustain the momentum, going down 2-4 in a 45-minute clash.
Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the women’s 10m air pistol individual final with a score of 181.1 after qualifying third with 579, as India returned without a medal from the event. The 24-year-old, who won individual and mixed team bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, will next compete in the 25m pistol event, where she is the defending champion.

Earlier, the Indian women’s team produced a dominant performance against a Sri Lankan side that looked under pressure from the outset. Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a superb 79 as India posted a formidable 216/3.

India’s bowlers then took centre stage, delivering a clinical performance to skittle Sri Lanka for just 69. Led by Deepti Sharma, who finished with an economy rate of 1.50, the bowling attack kept Sri Lanka in check throughout as India romped to a 147-run victory.

After three days of qualification rounds, the Indian trio of Raiza Dhillon, Maheshwari Chauhan and Parinaaz Dhaliwal finished with a combined score of 331 to end third behind gold medallists China (357) and Kazakhstan (336) in the women’s event.
Raiza and Parinaaz have another shot at a medal as the duo qualified for the individual final of the women’s skeet event. While Raiza qualified in eighth place, Parinaaz was ninth.

India failed to progress to the semifinals despite notching up a 2-1 win over the Philippines in their final Group B match of the men’s team regu event in sepak takraw at the Asian Games on Wednesday (September 23, 2026). A ‘regu’ event is three-a-side affair.
India needed a 3-0 win to keep their semifinal hopes alive, but a 2-1 victory was not enough as Japan advanced on the tiebreak after India, Japan and the Philippines all finished with three regu wins.
India had earlier lost 1-2 to Japan and 0-3 to powerhouse Malaysia, while Japan lost 0-3 to Malaysia and 1-2 to the Philippines.
