Bescom skips July meter readings, to issue average bills

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has requested domestic consumers to pay their July electricity bills within the due date, even though regular meter readings have not been carried out this month.
The Bescom said meter readers have been deployed for door-to-door data verification under the Gruha Jyothi scheme. As a result, July bills for domestic consumers have been generated based on the average electricity consumption over the previous three months. “Regular meter readings and billing based on actual consumption will resume from August,” it said.
Moreover, physical bills will not be issued this month. Consumers have been sent their average bill amount through SMS and email, the Bescom, on Monday, said, assuring that consumers need not be concerned if meter readers did not visit their premises, as the bills have already been generated and can be accessed through the usual payment platforms.
Consumers have 15 days from the date of bill generation to make the payment.
The Bescom said that consumer of High Tension (HT), Low Tension (LT) with a connected load of 40 HP and above, rooftop solar consumers, and temporary electricity connections will continue to receive bills based on actual meter readings.
