‘Blade Runner 2099’: The dystopian sci-fi actioner gets release date; first look teaser unveiled

Streaming service Prime Video announced the release date of the dystopian sci-fi series, Blade Runner 2099 at San Diego Comic-Con. The show will be released on the platform on November 25. Starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, the series is showrun by Silka Luisa with Ridley Scott serving as executive producer.
The teaser gives a glimpse into the brutal futuristic world of the show which is set fifty years after the events of Scott’s Blade Runner 2049. The series follows a rebuilt Los Angeles where Cora, a fugitive takes on the identity of Blade Runner. She teams up with Olwen, a Replicant who is about to end her life.
The limited series will consist of eight episodes and also stars Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi in pivotal roles.
The first film in the franchise, Blade Runner, was released in 1982 and was based on the novel ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ by Phillip K. Dick. It was directed by Scott and starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a cop living in the future, who is pulled out of retirement for one last job to hunt escaped Replicants.
A sequel, Blade Runner 2049, was released in 2017, which was set thirty years after the original and was directed by Denis Villeneuve with Ford reprising his role and Ryan Gosling playing a key role.
