Reports claim 21 people were killed and dozens injured in firing by security forces on supporters of the Joint Awami Action Committee in Rawalakot on July 27

The CPI(M) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed concern in Srinagar on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) about continued repression and killings by security forces in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) over the past 24 hours.
“I stand with the people of Pakistan‑administered Kashmir — their demands are just: end harsh economic policies, restore fair governance, and protect democratic rights. The deaths and injuries in Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli are a painful reminder that grievances met with force only deepen the crisis,” said CPI(M) leader and legislator M. Y. Tarigami.
Pointing to the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s ruling on the 12 refugee seats he added that “this struggle must be resolved constitutionally and peacefully — through dialogue, not repression”. “We express solidarity with families of the fallen. We call for accountability, relief for affected communities, and a political solution that honours rights and dignity,” Mr. Tarigami said
PDP leader and former minister Naeem Akhtar also appealed to Pakistan “to stop atrocities against our people in the part of our State that you hold”. “People’s demands cannot be brushed under the carpet by using brute violence. Engagement and dialogue are the only way forward to resolve all issues in the region.”
According to reports emerging from POK, 21 people were killed and dozens were injured after security forces opened fire on supporters of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) — a civil society group pressing for local demands — in Rawalakot on Monday (July 27, 2026).
