Dashboard to track groundwater recharge projects in State soon
The State will soon launch a dashboard to monitor groundwater recharge projects, enhancing water conservation in all constituencies.

The State government will soon launch a dashboard to track groundwater recharge and water conservation projects across all 224 Assembly constituencies, Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology Ajay Dharam Singh has said.
Addressing a press conference at the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) office here recently, Dr. Singh said that the dashboard will provide constituency-wise details of projects planned to improve groundwater levels. The projects will be finalised in consultation with local legislators and based on specific requirements of each area, he said.
The State government is planning a groundwater recharge programme based on the Shirpur model of Maharashtra, he added.
“The focus will be on a combination of measures such as filling tanks, lift irrigation, bridge-cum-barrages, a series of check dams and gokattas to improve groundwater levels,” he said.
The Minor Irrigation Department has been allocated ₹3,333 crore in the 2026-27 Budget. Of the 3,810 tanks under the department’s jurisdiction across the State, the State government has taken up projects to fill 925 tanks, Dr. Singh said.
He said that irrigation facilities have been provided to 9,829 farmers under the SCP and 6,165 farmers under the TSP during 2024-25 and 2025-26 by drilling borewells and providing electricity connections.
The State government has also constructed 687 barrages, check dams and vented dams, creating irrigation potential over 40,316 hectares, he said.
Dr. Singh said that the State is facing the possibility of drought this year and the government will step up efforts to conserve and recharge groundwater.
The Directorate of Groundwater will conduct a State-wide information, education and communication campaign to highlight the importance of groundwater recharge, judicious use of groundwater and conservation of tanks and other water bodies.
