M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), on Tuesday directed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the development of junctions along Bannerghatta Main Road between Gottigere and Tavarekere in south Bengaluru.
Mr. Rao issued the directions during an inspection of the footpath along a 3.2-km stretch between Kalena Agrahara Metro Station and IIMB Metro Station. He said the focus should be on improving traffic movement and pedestrian safety.
During the inspection, Mr. Rao flagged issues affecting pedestrian movement, including missing footpath facilities, unsafe road crossings, open drains and obstructions caused by utility infrastructure.
He pointed out the lack of a safe pedestrian pathway near a bus stop about 50 metres from Kalena Agrahara Metro Station and asked officials to examine the feasibility of providing a safe pedestrian crossing near the station, considering the site conditions and the road’s 10.5-metre carriageway width.
The Chief Commissioner directed officials to coordinate with optical fibre cable operators to relocate chambers and cables obstructing footpaths. Traffic police officials were also asked to identify alternative locations for police cabins installed on footpaths.
Further, he directed officials to explore relocating Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) Ring Main Unit (RMU) equipment obstructing pedestrian pathways to nearby properties.
