GBA orders removal of ‘overnight temple’ at South Bengaluru apartment complex
The Bengaluru South City Corporation has ordered the demolition of a temple structure built in the common area of SNN Raj Serenity Apartment in Yelachenahalli, south Bengaluru, after finding that it violated the sanctioned master plan and building regulations.

The Bengaluru South City Corporation has ordered the demolition of a temple structure built in the common area of SNN Raj Serenity Apartment in Yelachenahalli, south Bengaluru, after finding that it violated the sanctioned master plan and building regulations.
The temple became the centre of a months-long dispute among residents after the structure was allegedly put up “overnight” in March and a Ganesha idol was installed inside it. Four residents approached the court challenging the construction in the common area and sought to establish whether the structure had the necessary approvals. A complaint was also filed with the South City Corporation.
Following site inspections and verification of the apartment complex’s Occupancy Certificate and master plan, the corporation issued a provisional order directing the removal of the unauthorised portions of the structure and restraining any further construction.
The dispute dates back to November 2024, when an initial attempt was made to install an idol in a common area near the entrance. The move was halted after objections were raised and police were called, with residents citing the absence of the required approvals. The idol was subsequently moved to a private residence. Residents said the idol was installed again in March, leading to fresh police complaints.
When contacted, RWA members supporting the installation were not available for comment.
