Krishna Byre Gowda inspects solid waste management system

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Monday (August 31) conducted a surprise inspection of the solid waste management system along with the officials of the Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) within the North Corporation’s jurisdiction.

He directed officials to ensure proper door-to-door collection of segregated waste and instructed sanitation workers to collect waste kept outside residents’ gates instead of waiting for them to hand it over.

Mr. Gowda, along with BNCC Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, conducted a surprise inspection of the solid waste management system in the corporation limits at 5.30 a.m. The inspection covered areas around Mallasandra.

At the Mallasandra Auto Mustering Point in Dasarahalli division, the Minister checked the attendance of drivers and helpers and inspected the scanning and functioning of waste collection autos. At another mustering point, he inspected attendance, uniforms, use of gloves, and the functioning of sanitation workers. He also interacted with pourakarmikas and heard their grievances.

Mr. Gowda subsequently inspected door-to-door waste collection in Mallasandra and Jalahalli wards. They checked whether residents were segregating wet and dry waste at source, whether collection was regular, and whether roads were being kept clean.

Mr. Gowda instructed residents who would be away from home during collection hours to keep segregated waste outside their gates at a designated location without spilling it. Where there was no compound or gate, residents were advised to keep the waste at an elevated height or a wall-mounted railing to prevent stray animals from scattering it.

He then inspected vacant sites where cleanliness was not being maintained and directed officials to issue notices to the owners and ensure the sites were cleaned.
