Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday (July 11, 2026) reviewed the State’s monsoon preparedness after heavy rain triggered landslides, flash floods and localised flooding in 32 villages. The current spell of rain, which began in the first week of July, has damaged roads and infrastructure in several areas, with landslides, landslips, flash floods and localised flooding reported from 32 villages.

Heavy to very heavy rain lashed parts of India on Saturday (July 11, 2026), with Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh among the worst-hit as landslides blocked roads and disrupted public life.
In Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall triggered landslides, blocking 120 roads, including three national highways, while around 100 pilgrims were escorted to safety across a washed-out stretch of the Yamunotri National Highway
Heavy rain triggered landslides across Uttarakhand, blocking 126 roads, including two national highways, while a wall collapse in Dehradun left a woman injured and forced seven families to evacuate.
Repair work is underway on the Yamunotri Highway, which has been closed for the past three days due to a landslide at Syanachatti.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), landslides triggered by incessant rainfall over the past 24 hours have disrupted road connectivity across the state, with 126 roads currently blocked.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 12.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, East Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
Several hotels and houses were inundated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Saturday (July 12, 2026) after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in a stream, officials said.
A sudden spell of intense rainfall, possibly caused by a localised cloudburst, struck the forest areas of Awoora and Dehwathu in Pahalgam, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, they said.
