Residents of Bengaluru who have witnessed hot and humid weather for the last couple of weeks woke up to a rainy Sunday morning.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data the city received widespread overnight rainfall with the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and HAL Airport recording 94.2 mm and 66 mm rainfall respectively for a 24 hour period ending 8.30 a.m. on Sunday (September 20, 2026). The heavy downpour at KIA resulted in one international flight being diverted to Chennai and one domestic flight was delayed by 30 minutes.

“The rest of the operations continued as usual,” airport officials said.

IMD said that there is a low-pressure area over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas which has moved west-northwestwards and is located over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining East-Central Bay of Bengal.
