Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day; Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju says 10 hours can be allocated for discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026

Ending a week-long logjam, the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) began a discussion on the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, with Union Minister Jitendra Singh describing it as a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to safeguard the welfare of students and the youth.

Speaker Om Birla had announced in the Lok Sabha that he has allocated six hours for the debate on the Bill and if necessary, more time can be given based on the sense of the House. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Opposition parties requested for two more hours (a total of eight hours), but further the government is willing to agree for a discussion of 10 hours in the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day, shortly after the introduction of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026. A scheduled discussion on the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was not taken up. The Opposition refused to relent from its demand of seeking response from the government over police action on the student protesters in the national capital and other parts of the country.

Referring to Pralhad Joshi, Priyanka Gandhi says that after Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, PM Modi appointed an Education Minister who supported the release of Bilkis Bano’s rape convicts. Follwing that BJP erupted to protest, saying that Ms. Gandhi’s allegation is misinformation.

Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena MP said govt. need to change the NEET exam conducting system, adding that there should be multiple attempts for giving NEET exam.

Shrikant Eknath Shinde said BJP govt. is with the youth of the country. ‘We just not condemned the paper leak, we tried to clean the system,’ said Mr. Shinde. He said Dharmendra Pradhan took responsibility of the paper leak and resigned. “We conducted the NEET re-examination within 37 days and published the result within 25 days,” said Mr. Shinde.

“Create a national question bank and decentralise the question paper setting. This will be fairer,” Mr. Lavu states, making a reference to DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran’s speech.

To this, Mr. Maran says “ban NEET”. Mr. Lavu retorts that “Tamil Nadu wants to ban everything. That’s why all industries are coming to Andhra Pradesh. So, thank you”.

Further on the student protests, Mr. Lavu says the youngsters are worried about their future in view of the advent of technology. “The government has done a phenomenal job in listening to students and taking up relevant changes,” he adds.

MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu makes two suggestions to the government:

1) Speed of fast-track courts: Referring to the similar move following the 2012 Nirbhaya case, Mr. Lavu states that the speed of justice needs to be monitored.

2) Vacancies in Forensics dept.: In a request to the Home Ministry, he urges to fill the vacancies in the forensics department which is crucial to speed up probe-related processes.

He also calls for reforms on coaching institutes to ensure that education becomes “non-profit”.
