Muhammadali K.P., PFI Palakkad district president, remanded after being produced at the residence of judge P.K. Mohandas, Special Judge, considering the cases booked by NIA in Kochi

A leader of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), who was recently arrested from Delhi by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the alleged murder of RSS activist Sreenivasan of Palakkad, Kerala, has been remanded to 15 days in judicial custody.

Muhammadali K.P., the PFI Palakkad district president, was remanded after being produced at the residence of judge P.K. Mohandas, Special Judge, considering the cases booked by NIA in Kochi on Thursday night.

Mr. Muhammadali was taken into custody on Thursday morning at the IGI Airport, New Delhi, on his arrival from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, according to the NIA. The agency said the accused had been hiding in the Arab nation for the past four years.

So far, 67 accused have been arrested in the case dating back to 2022.

Mr. Muhammadali, among the 65 accused chargesheeted so far in the case, is facing charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the NIA said in a statement. He was allegedly involved in the conspiracy to murder and had harboured the murderers of Sreenivasan on April 16, 2022. The NIA had declared a reward of ₹3 lakh for information leading to his arrest. An Interpol Red Notice was also issued against him.

Initially investigated by the Palakkad Town South police, the case was later transferred to the NIA on the Union government’s direction.

According to the NIA statement, “the RSS activist was killed by PFI cadres in pursuance of the proscribed outfit’s conspiracy to unleash terror with the nefarious agenda of establishing Islamic Rule in India by 2047. The accused involved in the case had conspired to create a communal divide through violent extremism and Jihad in the country.”

Investigation in the case is still on, the agency said.
