In the run-up to the 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a video on Instagram, asking Indians to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ (the Tricolour at every house) campaign. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party group also waved the national flag at its weekly meeting, held in the Parliament House complex every Tuesday when Parliament is in session.

“On this Independence Day, let us celebrate the Tricolour at every home, in every heart,” Mr. Modi said.

Earlier on Tuesday (August 11, 2026), NDA MPs and Union Ministers greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi by waving the Tricolour and raising slogans of “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” when he entered the venue of the ruling coalition’s meeting, ‘Mangal Milan’ (auspicious meeting), which was attended by Ministers, NDA leaders, and MPs belonging to the coalition’s constituent parties.

Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Paatil spoke at the meeting on different aspects of the Jal Shakti Ministry, which lays down policy guidelines, and programmes for the management of water as a national resource. The Ministry is also responsible for the overall view on planning and coordination for the diverse uses of water.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin, and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and S. Jaishankar, among others, attended the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Ministers belonging to the NDA’s constituent parties, including H.D. Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S); Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP); Ramdas Athawale of the Republican Party of India-Athawale (RSP-A); Praful Patel of the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP); Upendra Kushwaha of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM); rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Satabdi Roy who is now with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).

The monsoon session of Parliament, which began on July 20, 2026, is set to conclude on August 13.
