‘Ramayana’ trailer: Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama and Yash’s Ravana prepare for epic stand-off in Nitesh Tiwari’s film

The trailer opens with visuals of Yash as Ravana taking over the rule of his kingdom. Then as per the legend, Lord Vishnu takes the form of Rama and Ranbir is shown to be playing the mythological character and introduced by his father Dashrath (Arun Govil) to everyone. Rama vows to protect mankind even if it means losing his own life in the process. The four-minute trailer offers an extensive glimpse into the epic, right from the events of Rama’s marriage to Sita and the commencement of their 14 year long Vanvas.

Rakul plays Surpanakha, Ravana’s sister, who’s attacked by Lakshman. Enraged, Ravana plans to take revenge, leading to some breathtaking visuals of the battle between the two. “If Ravana is the ruler of three realms, then all three realms shall witness his death,” Rama says as he promises to bring back Sita from the clutches of Ravana. There are visuals of intense sword fights as Rama engages in brawls with the enemies. The film promises to be an epic stand-off between Rama and Ravana, with high-octane visuals and fantastical action.

Ramayana features music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer and lyrics by Dr. Kumar Vishwas. The adapted screenplay is written by Sridhar Raghavan and Nitesh Tiwari with dialogues by Shreyas Jain and Nitesh Tiwari and the film is shot by Pankaj Kumar and Mahesh Limaye. It is among the most expensive Indian films ever made with the budget reportedly crossing Rs 4,000 crore.

Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios along with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The first part in the series will be released in theatres on Diwali 2026 followed by the second part in 2027.
