The rebel leaders in the AIADMK, S.P. Velumani and Natham R. Viswanathan, did not take part in the meeting of party’s district secretaries chaired by general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the party head office in Chennai on Sunday.
The party’s performance in the recent bypoll in Dharapuram and Madurantakam Assembly constituencies, and preparations for its general council and executive committee meetings, expected to be conducted in December this year, were among the issues discussed at the meeting. Senior leaders A. Tamilmagan Hussain, K.P. Munusamy, and Dindigul C. Sreenivasan were among those who attended the meeting.
Earlier, Mr. Palaniswami issued a statement criticising the TVK-led government over the rates of medicines in Mudhalvar Marundhagams (formerly Amma Marundhagams). Citing a report from the All India Drug Action Network, he said medicines at Amma Marundhagams were being sold at rates higher than the prices fixed, which is affecting the poor.
Retired Additional Superintendent of Police S. Velladurai, who was known for his involvement in many ‘police encounter’ cases, joined the AIADMK in the presence of Mr. Palaniswami on Sunday.
