As Sanjay Gupta passed away on Friday (October 30, 2026), Sanjay Dutt, Hansal Mehta and others took to social media to remember the Shootout at Wadala director.

Sanjay Dutt, who worked with Gupta in Kaante and Zinda, shared photos with him and wrote, “Gupta, my brother. I still cannot believe that you are gone. We have shared so much together, so many memories and so many years of friendship. You have always been family to me, and that will never change. I will miss you, our conversations and all the times we spent together.”

He further mentioned making a sequel to Kaante and added, “We were just discussing Kante 2 recently, I will make Kaante 2 your dream, in memory of you my brother, I will do everything for this dream of yours to come true, love you forever and always. Life will not be the same without you, brother. May God bless your soul.”

Hansal wrote a long note calling Gupta his “only boss in the film industry” and a “dear friend”. “We went through many lows and many highs together, and through all of it we shared a love for the good things in life. My first and only Rolex came from him. Today it’s the one memory of him I carry on my wrist, and I don’t think I’ll ever take it off,” Hansal wrote.

Hansal remembered spending time with him, saying that “He held my hand when I was at my lowest.” “The good food, the good booze, the endless parties. I watched some of the best films of my life in his theatre. I borrowed some of the best books I’ve read from his shelves. My bro code began with you, Sanjay. And now it’s ended. I’m going to miss you more than I can say. The heavens are all set for a big party. Anu, Dalai and Shivansh, may God give you the strength to bear this terrible loss,” Hansal said.

Kajol shared photo of the director on Instagram and called the news of his death “heartbreaking”. “Sending love and immense strength to the family through this loss. Rest in peace,” she wrote.

Anupam Kher wrote that he woke up to the “heartbreaking news” in Stockholm. “Sanjay was a filmmaker with a distinctive style and an enormous love for cinema. He was an encyclopaedia of films. You could ask him practically anything about movies, and a conversation with him would remind you how much he loved the world he belonged to. His passion came through in his social media posts too, where, of late, he had been expressing himself so openly,” he said.
