Final trainset for Yellow Line arrives in Bengaluru; sets to boost service frequency

Nearly a year after the inauguration of Bengaluru metro's Yellow Line, the final trainset supplied by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. (TRSL) for the corridor arrived in Bengaluru on Monday.
The six-coach train, manufactured by the TRSL at its facility near Kolkata, reached the Hebbagodi depot. According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, the train was unloaded before the installation of couplers and gangways. It will be shifted to the Inspection Bay Line for detailed inspections and testing.
Following the assembly process, the train will undergo static inspections before commencing the mandatory 750-km dynamic testing on the main line.
The officials said that the successful completion of these tests is essential before the trainset can be inducted into commercial passenger service.
The arrival of the 15th and final trainset is expected to improve services on the 19.75-km Yellow Line. At present, 10 trains are operational, enabling metro services at a peak-hour frequency of around seven minutes and every 10 minutes during non-peak hours.
Once all 15 trainsets are commissioned, the BMRCL expects to reduce peak-hour waiting times significantly, with trains operating every four to five minutes. Of the total fleet, 13 trainsets will be deployed for regular passenger services, while two will be maintained as reserve stock to ensure uninterrupted operations during maintenance, emergencies and unforeseen technical issues.
The officials said that the BMRCL aims to make the entire fleet operational by the end of August, subject to the successful completion of testing and certification.
With the completion of the Yellow Line order, the TRSL will now shift its focus to manufacturing and supplying 18 additional trainsets for the Purple and Green Lines under a separate contract.
