Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 27, 2026). The Bill has strong penal provisions to deal with any case of paper leaks. LS Speaker Om Birla said 91 amendments have been moved to the Bill. Mr. Birla has offered a dedicated six-hour window for a comprehensive discussion on the Public Examinations Bill, stressing that a unified approach is essential to reform the country’s competitive examination system. However, no discussion on the Bill happened as Lok Sabha adjourned for the day over Opposition protests demanding a statement from the government on the use of police force on protestors in Delhi.

The Bill significantly toughens the penalties established under the 2024 Act, introduces mandatory two-month investigation deadlines, along with designated Special Fast Track Courts, and steep financial penalties reaching up to ₹10 crore for organised crime networks.

Opposition parties protested on Monday (July 27, 2026) outside Parliament on the use of brute force on protestors during Parliament March on July 20, adding that they will continue to raise their demand for accountability from the Union Home Minister over the incident.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterates appeal to the Congress and its allies for allowing the House to function. He says Congress complains outside Parliament that they are not allowed to speak but inside the House, they are not speaking, Mr. Rijiju says. He asks Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to allow the discussion to proceed as planned. He condemns the Opposition again to not allowing the House to function.

Mr. Kharge says the Opposition is ready to debate but why is the Home Minister not issuing a statement on the use of force on protestors. Loud protests erupt on both sides.

Mr. Harivansh adjourns the House till 11 a.m. on Tuesday (July 28, 2026).

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju says the Congress and its allies are not allowing the debate on the Bill. “Speaker has given six hours of time and more time can be given if needed,” Mr. Rijiju says. He appeals to the Congress to allow the discussion.

Meanwhile, Opposition continues its sloganeering and protests inside the House. “Do you not want this discussion,” Mr. Tenneti asks. The Opposition refuses to yield.

Mr. Tenneti adjourns the House till 11 a.m. on Tuesday (July 28, 2026).

The government on Monday (July 27) informed Parliament that no assessment has been carried out on the percentage of vehicles in the country that are currently fully compatible with E20 fuel.

Replying to a query which seeks to know whether the government had assessed the percentage of vehicles in the country that are fully compatible with E20 fuel, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi said no such assessment has been undertaken.

“Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) have informed that no such assessment has been done by them,” the Minister replied.- ANI

Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi says, “The images of police brutality emerging from across the country are unfortunate. Students have taken to the streets to voice their demands; engage in dialogue with them, do not use AK-47s against them... You will have to come to Parliament and answer for this.”- ANI
