Residents of Kogilu in north Bengaluru have appealed to the government to take up two long-pending road projects, saying poor connectivity and damaged internal roads have made commuting difficult. They said that if there is no progress on the projects by August 31, they will stage protests.
An online petition seeking construction of the proposed Kogilu-Sampigehalli Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) road has received more than 1,000 signatures within a month.
The residents are demanding an 18-metre-wide CDP road connecting Kogilu Main Road to Sampigehalli through Gastikempanahalli, besides a proposed service road from Kogilu Main Road to KPSC Layout 1st Main Road near Jakkur Lake. Both projects are proposed to be taken up by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE).
Pointing out that the projects fall under the Byatarayanapura Assembly constituency represented by Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, residents argued that the road works have remained pending even though several apartment projects and commercial developments have come up in the area.
Residents added that they currently depend on two internal roads — Pooja Mahalaxmi Layout Main Road and Garg Street — to reach Kogilu Main Road. They pointed out that both roads are in a poor condition and that commuting has become difficult, especially for two-wheeler riders.
Many in the petition said that they bought houses in the area based on the Revised Master Plan (RMP) 2015, expecting the proposed road to be developed but have seen little progress on the project.
