Telangana Assembly Monsoon Session LIVE Sept 11: IT Minister responds to concerns over electricity requirement at data centres

Sridhar Babu says they have initiated a special action plan to address the challenges that may arise from the expansion of data centres in the coming years

A day after discussing a range of subjects, including health insurance for Telangana Government employees, pesticide usage in vegetable cultivation and others, MLAs may raise some more pertinent issues on the fifth day of the State Assembly’s monsoon session.

The question hour of the fifth day of Telangana Assembly’s monsoon session on Friday (September 11, 2026) began with a question on establishment of tier-I IT industries in Nizamabad.

Citing the proposed data centres in Telangana, Sirpur MLA Palvai Harish Babu raised concerns over large scale need for electricity for data centres. He said that it is IT services which creates jobs and not data centres.

Responding to the concerns, Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu agreed that there are some challenges associated with them. He said that they have decided to think of power needs of data centres only after fulfilling electricity requirements for domestic consumption, agriculture, industries and State.

The other subjects on which questions are scheduled to be asked includes pending scholarships and fee reimbursement arrears; measures taken for empowerment of persons with disabilities; milk production in the State; and investments and employment generation through Telangana Rising Summit.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would move for leave to introduce the Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Bill 2026. A short discussion is scheduled on the request for ‘inclusion of BC/OBC in the second phase questionnaire’ of Census-2027.

A question on the installation of smart meters for agriculture motors may be asked in the Legislative Council.

BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy mentioned shortage of funds for funds at IIIT Basar and shortage of faculty there and at other universities.

Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu said that curriculum was changed for Intermediate, Polytechnic and government Degree Colleges after a gap of 10 years.

Besides employment potential, importance was given to academics and research.

In a candid admission, Telangana Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said that all the companies with which the State Government has signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) may not set up their units here.

The companies which evinced interest in setting up their units need to fulfil conditions like financial closure before making investments. The State Government signed 108 MoUs with major firms envisaging investment to the tune of ₹5.86 lakh crore during the global summit as well as the Telangana Rising delegation’s visit to Davos to participate in the World Economic Forum meeting.Read the report for details

Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said that while high-value products were created in other parts of the world, highly skilled software engineers from the State executed backoffice work from here all these years,

“We want to create high value products from Hyderabad and tier-II cities like Adilabad and Nizamabad. We are making plans,” he said in the Assembly.
